Approved by the Ministry of Culture as a cross-provincial institution for national graded examination of art, the School of Graded Examination provides dance education by offering a range of exams and assessments to motivate and reward students outside the academy. The School takes as its mission to provide universal access to dance education for all with a view to ultimately enhance the caliber of Chinese people. Serving the needs of Beijing and having presence across the country and overseas, the School provides dance programs for the society with pedagogical excellence by developing teaching materials, training teachers, administering exams and assessments and promoting dance courses.
Currently, the School provides graded examination for Chinese dance and ballet. The Chinese Dance Graded Examination Teaching Materials (Grade 1-13) and the Ballet Graded Examination Teaching Materials (Grade 1-8), issued under the general editorship of two of the School’s renowned dance educators, Professor Sun Guangyan and Professor Qu Hao respectively, represent the first series of off-campus dance education teaching materials for children and adolescents in China. The School has now in place a faculty with both full-time and part-time instructors at different ages, providing standardized off-campus dance courses with a complete system of teaching materials compiled and published by the School itself along with strict regulations for graded examinations.
Over the past 3 decades, the School has built and maintained successful partnership with more than 300 institutions in 29 provinces, cities and autonomous regions across China, as well as a number of partners in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Japan, the United States and Canada, etc., to establish its position on the world stage.
The new leadership of the School of Graded Examination ensures that the school continue its dedication to artistic pursuit, talent training and universal dance education. With artistic and pedagogical excellence and a vision to reach out to a larger scope of audience, the school will continue to enhance access to dance education and propagate dance culture, creating maximized social and economic benefits.
In order to meet the growing need for graded examination of the society, a new campus was established in Lianhuaqiao in 2016 under the leadership of the BDA Party Committee.
