In October, Beijing Dance Academy brought together the existing Faculty of Dance Studies, Faculty of Art Communication and Faculty of Humanities to establish the School of Humanities covering a range of disciplines in humanities and social sciences including dance studies, art management, art theories, etc. The School provides undergraduate programs in two majors, dance studies and art management, of which the former is recognized as a national and municipal majors. The School also seeks to cultivate the students’ cognitive and empathetic qualities by providing humanities education for all BDA students, with both compulsory and elective courses provided in humanities and social sciences.
The Humanity School has 150 students, and 38 full time teachers including 10 professors, 14 associate professors and 14 doctor’s degree holders. 26 renowned professionals and researchers including Lv Yisheng, Deng Youling, Luo Xiongyan, Wang Guobin, and Yu Ping also teach and do research at the Humanity School.
The Faculty of Dance Studies of the Humanity School was founded in 1985 and was the first to set up the Dance Studies programs and enroll undergraduates in that same year. In 1999, the first batch of graduate students were enrolled. Tasked with talent training, teaching and research in the field of dance studies, the Faculty of Dance Studies has set up three teaching and research sections, namely, dance history, dance science, and dance practice.
