At the first-ever World Humanoid Robot Games, the Beijing Dance Academy (BDA) made an impressive debut, showcasing its bold vision of blending dance with cutting-edge technology. Collaborating closely with leading tech enterprises, BDA connected with a global community of “robot dancers” with an open and innovative spirit and achieved remarkable success in both the group and solo robot dance categories.

BDA struck gold in the group dance category with the piece Spirit of the Terracotta Warriors (Qin Yong Hun), a human-robot collaborative performance developed with Hubei Optics Valley Dongzhi Embodied Intelligence Technology. In the solo dance category, BDA clinched the silver medal with Yingge Dance (Yingge Wu), a partnership with Noetix Robotics. On this world-class platform where technology and art converge, BDA drew on its distinctive artistic strengths and deep cultural heritage to showcase the boundless potential of Chinese robot dance to the world.

At the opening ceremony on August 14, the human-robot collaborative dance Spirit of the Terracotta Warriors took the stage during the FOP segment as the featured piece of the Exhibition Events for Dance. The performance created a dramatic clash between rich historical grandeur and the precise mechanical structure of the performers, instantly becoming the highlight of the event.

The performance featured nine full-sized photonic robots: four at the back beating drums, while five at the front executed choreographed dance movements. A human dancer, portraying an ancient general, reviewed the ranks of the robotic terracotta army and led it into battle, vividly recreating the heroic bearing of Qin Dynasty soldiers.

On the morning of August 15, the full version of this dance stunned the audience in the group dance competition. The performance was strikingly dramatic, with robots and human dancers moving in seamless coordination to create a breathtaking, sweeping spectacle. It brought a millennium of traditional culture to life on this stage of cutting-edge technology, ultimately securing the gold medal in the event.
