On the evening of January 9, a delegation composed of Speakers of Parliaments of 7 Nordic and Baltic Countries, including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, visited Beijing Dance Academy and watched a special performance. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Zhang Wei, Deputy Inspector of the Foreign Affairs Bureau of the General Office of the NPC Standing Committee. Mr. Wang Xudong, Chairman of Academy Council of BDA, met with the delegation.
Before the performance, Mr. Wang Xudong warmly welcomed all the delegates and reminded them of the long history and rich traditions of dance cultures in China and Europe, despite distinct characteristics. Mr. Wang briefed the delegation on the close partnership between BDA and dance academies and festivals in Europe, as well as the dance culture exchanges and cooperation under the framework of the China-CEEC Dance Culture Union which was included in the Budapest Guidelines for Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries signed by Premier Li Keqiang at the Sixth Summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries(CEECs) in November, 2017. On January 17, two art troupes of BDA will go on a performance tour to 9 CEECs including Estonia as part of the Ministry of Culture’s “Happy Chinese New Year” cultural program; in March, a group of 1 teacher and 4 students from the Department of Chinese Classical Dance will, upon invitation, attend the 23rd Baltic Dance Festival in Latvia. Mr. Wang, on behalf of the Academy, cordially invited the Speakers of Parliament of Estonia and Latvia to watch BDA’s performance live by then.
Following that, the delegation watched the introduction video of BDA, as well as selected performances given by Ballet Department, Department of Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance, Department of Chinese Classical Dance and the Affiliated Secondary School of BDA. Speakers of Parliament of different countries marveled at the great performances and spoke highly of the student performers. Speaker of Parliament Maria Lohela of Finland thanked all the student performers and expressed her wish to invite the staff and students of BDA to Finland for performances. Norway’s Speaker of Parliament Olemic Thommessen expressed admiration for the the delicate art of dance that had been fully conveyed in both form and spirit by the young students. The successful reception of the high-level foreign delegation is part of BDA’s mission to serve national diplomatic interests and propagate China’s dance culture, in which process contributing to the Academy’s global image as well.
The delegation of the Speakers of Parliaments of 7 Nordic and Baltic Countries visited China from January 7 to January 13, and met with chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress Zhang Dejiang and State Councilor and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Yang Jiechi at the Great Hall of the People and in Zhongnaihai respectively.
